We bought an old brick house on the banks of the Merri Creek nearly two years ago and promptly rented it out. At that time I thought we wouldn’t be moving into it for 3 or 4 years so as to settle the mortgage down a little bit through the rort benefits of negative gearing. We are instead moving in tomorrow having managed to last only 2 years. I dropped off some things a couple of times earlier this week, sat on the back veranda looking over the nature reserve and found myself wondering why on earth I’d deprived myself of that view, of that place for that long.

Anyway, we’ll be there soon enough and saying goodbye to my Thornbury house (at least as a home if not as a possession), which over the years has inspired a number of posts, has been surprisingly easy.
