reading the right and left comments (ie rants) on the recent riots, it seems to me that both sides make the over-generalisation mistake.
left – the thousands of racist yobs descending on cronulla to chant racists slogans and assault ethnic bystanders indicate a deep seated racism in the entire white Australian public and the endemic racism of all of J Howard’s policies.
right – the threathening racist behaviour of lebanese gangs towards women and people in general indicate a deep seated cultural misalignment of the entire lebanese muslim community, the general evilness of Islam and the failure of the whole edifice of multiculturalism (never mind the successful integration of italians, greeks, asians, africans, etc)
Ho hum. Any excuse to bring deep seated prejudices out into the light.
